  1. I would have to vote no on prop 14. This is because it would not make it an equal election, cover the truth of each candidate, and give more power to the wealthiest. Voting no on this prop, would make sure that elections stay equal, because on elections we know who is coming from each party and we get an idea of what they might support or not. Each candidate states what political party they are affiliated with and each voter can use that as a resource to make sure that they are an educated voter. Another reason is because this prop would cover the truth behind each election. That is because each candidate would try to win as much votes as possible since no they won't have to state what political party they are affiliated with. Voters will be confused on the history of each candidate and more of the truth would be covered up. No one unless do research each candidate's background will know what they support. I would also not support this prop because it would give more power to the wealthiest; this is because whoever has more money will have more power. There won't be any regulation declaring each candidates party affiliation, which means that campaigns will have to even more important now that there are more possibilities to gain voters. After analyzing this prop I am sure that I would go against it.

  2. If I were of legal age to vote in this election, I would vote Yes on Prop 14. As a student with socially liberal ideology and politically conservative ideology, I tend to categorize myself as an Independent. If prop 14 passes, it would allow the independent like myself have a say in the blanket primary which, I feel would promote more democracy and spread of opinions and ideas.

  3. After reading what Prop 14 is hoping to change I personally will not vote for this proposition. Not only would it cause voter confusion and manipulation by allowing multiple candidates to be placed on the ballot regardless of party affiliation. But it will also make it more difficult for candidates to reach their audiences by having so many different voters, which of course in the end will lead to higher campaign costs. I also will not vote for this proposition because it will basically get rid of the two party system which I think has worked for this long, and should continue to be the system in place for California’s voting system and government. Without the two party system, it will then make all candidates look like independents which will further confuse voters who are loyal to their political platform. Overall, I think Prop 14 is a bad idea and I am planning on voting NO this year.

  4. I'm the legal age to vote and if I had an opportunity to go to the polls, I would have voted YES on this proposition. I think that by having Prop 14, more people would be encouraged to vote. The U.S. already has such a low voter turn out that by having this, more people can come out and share their opinions. By giving me an opportunity to vote for whoever I want without becoming affiliated with a specific group is really beneficial to me because I wouldn't have to do things or vote for things just because my party believes in it.

  5. After reading the contents of this blog and referencing the concepts we learned in AP Government class, I will be voting no on Prop 14. Though there are many arguments for how beneficial prop 14 will be beneficial to democracy within California, I personally believe a blanket primary would lead to unnecessary voter confusion. Additionally, proposition 14 would only increase the emphasis of political campaigns on the candidates which would drive up the costs of elections and encourage the media’s practice of focusing on the “horse race” rather than the stances each candidate holds for the issues. Since candidates will not be forced to affiliate with a party run and successfully win in the state, I believe this would lead to more political gridlock because we could then have candidates in power that are not supported by or do not agree with the major political parties and a politician needs to be able to navigate the two party system on the federal level in order to successfully push their legislation. This being said, I will agree with the Supreme Court and say no to a blanket primary.

  6. I would vote no on Prop 14 because I think that by having a blanket primary we will lose voters instead of gaining voters. Since there will be so much on the ballot, I don't think people will understand the importance of whose running but how much people are running for a certain position. I think that our two-party system has proved effective over the years, and it should stay that way. This proposition will also confuse the voters on which party the candidate aligns themselves with since it is an independent election. There will also be a lack of information since they can become more informative by the sample ballot. By voting no on Prop 14, I am giving candidates the chance to align themselves with a party as well as stating their platforms.

  7. I will vote yes on prop 14 because I think that with the prop passed, there will be more voters in the primary elections. The primary elections do not allow independents to vote and in California, there is a closed primary where only people in a party can vote. With the passage of prop 14, the low voter turnout will increase because people will be more encouraged to vote.

  8. I wish I could vote in this election! I am not 18 yet, but if I were, I would vote yes on proposition 14. I believe that the blanket primary system of voting that allows people to vote outside of their political party fosters the concept of democracy and freedom of choice.Being tied to one political party can often create careless voting trends. Being given only the opportunity to vote for candidates within your registered party is constricting and limiting. Our two party system is broken and is constantly clashing heads, causing gridlock in Washington, as well as our state governments. When I become a registered voter, I will resister as an Independent so I am offered the freedom to favor people outside of my party if they are more favorable. Its great that I can be a registered as a Democrat and be able to vote for a Republican candidate if I wished to do so. People will be more eager to vote and it also may put a pressure on voters to become more educated on the candidates and their issues, but whats wrong with doing a little bit of research and becoming informed? Nothing! I would vote yes on prop 14 in a heartbeat!

  9. I would easily vote yes on Prop 14 because a blanket primary just allows for the voter to conceal their affiliation to a political party. I see nothing wrong with that. It allows independent voters to be involved in the primaries. Secondly, all citizens get to vote on the same issues regardless of their party.

  10. After analyzing the information on Prop 14 I would vote no because it will be confusing. Although I understand that it will give thrid parties equal opportunities, they will not end up winning elections anyways. So having so many names on the ballots will cause voters to be confused and not vote correctly.

  11. If I could have voted today, I would have voted YES on Prop 14. i would have done so because then it would allow people to register as independents, as we've seen in the trends for voter affiliation, and still be able to vote for people who they think best fit certain positions, regardless of their political ideology. Being an independent voter now entitles you to count as a vote, and the ballot has less choice because less people run as independents. Voter turnout would increase and the number of votes for each candidate would better reflect that of the citizens of California, instead of just being able to only vote for one party.

  12. I would vote yes on prop 14 because I believe if they run a blanket primary, it will give the voters more options on who to vote for and not pick someone or something that they partially agree with. I believe that if they dont allow this then it will lead to votes that were not full supported. I think the blanket primary will give more options and let the third parties get an opportunity.

  13. Honestly I feel indifferent about this Proposition 14. i am sure there may lie a really big outcome behind this, but me personally I feel it does not give an advantage to a candidate over the other. I have been hearing a couple sides to this stories that it gives the rich an advantage over the other candidates? In the end I feel that the candidate with the most policies, strongest platform and the most genuine smile will surpass any wealthy candidate that may have an "advantage" if any. I just do not see how this proposition may have any form of influence over the policies that I look forward too when I vote.

  14. I would vote Yes on propostion 14 because it give those independent voters more chances to vote during a blanket primary, and it would also give them more options. I also feel that third parties would benefit from this proposition, giving them the chance to actually compete against the democratic and republican parties.

  15. I would vote no on Proposition 14 because I do not support the blanket primary system. A blanket primary would mean that all candidates from each party would show up on the ballot and independents would be allowed to vote. Having all of the candidates on one ballot will lead to split ticket voting which will then lead to gridlock in policy making. I compare this to a president from one party trying to enact policy with a Congress from the other party. Neither one goes anywhere. That is why I would vote no on Proposition 14.

  16. I would vote yes on Prop 14, because I am a strong advocate of an open primary, and an advocate of independent candidates. The need to suit independent voters by accommodating independent candidates is essential to our right to have representatives that accurately give a balanced account for all parties, including independents. Therefore, in roder to create an environment more conducive to open ideas and political liquidity, an open primary is necessary. This having been stated, I am voting against Prop 14.

  17. I would vote yes on proposition 14 because I have always been unhappy with the process of the US elections where the primary election is held in June and it flushes out all the third party candidates for the general election that comes afterwards. I feel that this system does not allow and will never allow a third party candidate to win. It will also give all voters a chance to vote in all the elections even if they are not affiliated with a party. I definitely support prop 14.

  18. After a meticulous inspection and analysis of Prop 14, i have decided that i will be filling in the oval or punching out the hole, or however they do it nowadays, for a YES on prop 14. i strongly support prop 14 because it would open the blanket primary system where anyone can vote for either party’s candidate. Most importantly this would allow independents more say in the primaries. This is significant because more voters are becoming independents, therefore they will want a say in the primary. With independents voting in the primaries the candidates they support would be on the ballot and this would increase voter turnout. Also candidates running for office will have to seek a broader range of voters because independents can vote for either candidate.

  19. That with propr 14 it would not be fair use to candiadates get funding for there campaign in thhere wonw way. Which can include funraisng help from family members. Or could be brought ny themselves. whcih can be in so many ways. Unnecesary law could not reacha a good enugh equality stage for it.

  20. I would vote yes because of the fact that, statistically, there has been a lower vote turnout in the past 5 years compared to the votes decades behind. This proposition will give more people the confidence to vote and will increase the voter turnout. As a blanket primary, many can vote for whoever they want on either party and with the recent increase in independents there are now many options to choose from. Staying with only one party is such a hassle for me and for many citizens which will discourage many voters. My vote towards prop 14 is a yes.

  21. I vote yes on proposition 14 because I think that we have a serious issue with voter turn outs and this proposition would set the stage for a greater voter turnout. An open blanket primary would also allow people to vote freely on however they believe should win without party restrictions.

  22. I would vote yes on Prop 14 because voting yes would help increase voter turnout. Open blankets primary will draw the attention of people from differing political parties, and in doing so, there will be a more democratic government where everyone has a say.

  23. I would vote no on Prop 14. I say this because I believe that having a blanket primary would decrease voter turnout. Because of the loads of information given, it would be complicated for people to understand. Having a two-party system has had a great up sight and should be continued to be used.
